Argentina ZURUBÍ ARA (P-55) of the ARA and GOLD (CG-101) of the PNA

Dedicated input Mr. Antonio Omar Cuello, crew of the boat "ARA Zurubí" outstanding in Ushuaia for the years 1962-1963 to contact me by mail asking for his beloved ship.


These two (2) patrol boats were built in the workshops the former Naval Base Rio Santiago, precursors Naval Shipyard Fabrications State (AFNE) , between 1938 and 1939, one to serve in the Navy Argentina and another to do so in the current Argentina PNA.


ZURUBÍ ARA (P-55)

With a particular license language, the patrol boat received by the Armada Argentina in 1939 was named "ARA Zurubí" (the right thing would have been Surubí) receives the index P-55 . Since its incorporation until the beginning of 1944 met in pilotage duties River Plate.

Given the demands of the successive Government of Tierra del Fuego , requesting the assignment of a patrol boat to provide services and support to the community of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina the Navy provides transportation to the South.

From that date until the end of 1985 , or over 41 years the "Zurubí" rendered great services to the community of Tierra del Fuego by carrying out various tasks such as marking campaigns, hydrographic survey, evacuations and health care, free navigation, protocol and scientific support staff.

In 1985 the Armada Argentina decide radiating from active duty on the grounds that he had already served its life cycle.

The insistent request of residents Tierra del Fuego, who considered the launch of the living history of Ushuaia by the return of the "Zurubí" , led the Provincial Government and the Navy agreed to perform Argentina repairs to return to activity, achieving a wonderful result.

so the October 12, 1993 , coinciding with the 109th anniversary of the founding of Ushuaia, the "Zurubí" returns to active duty in the Navy being declared "Interest Municipal and Provincial Historic " by Decree No. 2359 the Provincial Executive, and Decree No. 980/93 of the Municipal Executive.

To date, the "P-55" now has 72 years of life, of which 67 fulfilled them serving on the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia port . It operates under the command of the Southern Naval Area and meets protocol such special sailings and institutional relationships.

DORADO (GC-101)
Twin the "Zurubí" the patrol boat designed to PNA was given the name of another fish: Dorado and was indicative GC-101. It was originally designed to transfer practical and personnel serving in the hulks anchored in the Rio de la Plata the Intersection (opposite the city of La Plata) and "landfall" in the mouth River said.

For their seaworthiness and navigation instruments was for many years destined to be the first command of officers of the PNA oriented navigation.

In 1968, he made a survey of the Rio de la Plata , and in 1969 on patrol in waters Martin Garcia Island, in the border dispute with Uruguay.
